Transfer news: Arsenal sign Egyptian midfielder

English Premier League (EPL) leaders have signed 23 year old midfielder Mohammed Elneny.

The former FC Basel player has joined the gunners in a deal reported to be worth around £5million and may make his debut on Sunday against Stoke City.

Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger has been a long time admirer of the Egyptian midfielder who is expected to provide cover for injured Santi Carzola and Jack Wilshere.

The two Arsenal stars have been on the injury sidelines for a long time giving Wenger in midfield.

Wenger confirmed the signing of the player during an interview at Anfield on Wednesday night after the gunners drew 3-3 with Liverpool.

Elneny has 39 caps for the Egyptian national team scoring three goals in the process. He has also played for the countries under-20 and under-23 sides.

He made 91appearences for FC Basel scoring five goals. In other transfer news, new Real Madrid coach Zinadine Zidane is reported to be eying to make Juventus forward Paul Pogba his first signing since taking over.

The French midfielder has everything to attract interest from Madrid. At just 22 years of age, he made it into the FIFPro’s Team of the Year at the Ballon d’awards making him the youngest player to do so since Lionel Messi did it in 2009.
