Giroud, Firmino shine in draw

Olivier Giroud and Robert Firmino were the heroes as Liverpool and Arsenal drew 3-3 in Wednesday’s high octane energy English Premier League (EPL) match at Anfield.

Both players scored a double and it was the best result that their coaches would have wanted in a match of high drama and expectation.

For Arsenal however, they will regret not hanging on to their lead to the end. As their stay at the top threatened due to a tie at the top with second placed Leicester City on 43 points though the gunners enjoy a superior goal aggregate.

It was Firmino who grabbed early headlines with an impressive performance before a packed Anfield crowd resulting in two goals both scored spectacularly even before the gunners had settled.

But poor defending came to haunt the Reds who conceded the first goal through Aaron Ramsey and another one by Olivier Giroud at the 25th minute ensured the two sides went to the break level.

But coming back into the second half, Giroud’s magic helped Arsenal to go ahead for the first time and it looked like it would end that way until Joe Allen scored at the stroke of full time to ensure Liverpool grabbed a point from the fixture.

Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard was at the top of his game denying City chance after chance. But Everton were lucky not to concede a penalty when Raheem Sterling was fouled by John Stones. Even then it was a morale boosting result for Everton who until then had won just once in seven games.
