English Premier League (EPL) leaders Leicester City will be under pressure to remain at the top when they take on Newcastle United in Monday night’s fixture.

Leicester who remain at the top on 60 points must win on Monday to maintain their five point lead over second placed Tottenham Hotspurs.

Tottenham closed the gap on Leicester City thanks to a 2-0 win over Aston Villa at the weekend. The victory came courtesy of a double from Harry Kane who scored both goals in a span of three minutes.

Spurs were bouncing back to winning ways after two matches without a win and have already proved that they remain serious about their title challenge.

For Kane the two goals drew him level with Leicester’s Jamie Vardy and both remain top scorers in the Premier League with 19 goals.

Back to Monday’s match, the Foxes will be looking for a third consecutive win over their opponents having won the two previous matches with a 3-0 score line.

Add that to the fact that Leicester have lost just once at home in 17 matches and kept five clean sheets in the last six home matches and you know that Newcastle are facing a tough one.

It has been a bad season for Newcastle who last week appointed Raphael Benitez as their new manager to try and salvage their Premiership status.

The magpies have lost 17 of their 21 away games so far and it does not look like the bad run of results is about to come to an end.

Apart from the Tottenham v Villa match, there were three other Premier League matches played on Saturday. Champions Manchester City threw away their chance to catch up with the leaders following a barren draw against Norwich.

Bournemouth beat Swansea City 3-2 while Southampton bounced back to winning ways with 2-1 win over Stoke City.
