South Korea U23 will take on Mexico U23 in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games Football Tournament quarter-final match on July 31.

The Young Warriors progressed to the knockout phase after finishing at the top of Group B which included Honduras, Romania, and New Zealand.

They accumulated six points from three matches – winning two matches and losing one which was against New Zealand on matchday one.

South Korea proved too strong for Honduras in their final Group B match as they emerged 6-0 winners in a game that was played on July 28.

Meanwhile, Mexico advanced to the knockout phase after finishing second in Group A which included France, South Africa, and hosts Japan.

The Young Tricolors collected six points from three games – winning two games and losing one match and they managed to secure the runners-up spot.

They ended their Group A campaign with a 3-0 win over South Africa in an encounter that was played on July 28.

Jaime Lozano, the Mexico U23 coach, is wary of a dangerous South Korea side and he compared them to Japan.

“We have little analyzed them and compare them [to South Korea]. They is a very intense team, possibly more intense and stronger than Japan, I think Japan may have a little more of that group game,” Lozano said.

“Korea reaches the final third well, they have won their last two games and have two forwards who are dangerous. I had to see a video of the game they lost against New Zealand and if it is due to not their scoring chances, they must have scored.”

This will be the fifth meeting between South Korea and Mexico at the Olympic Games.

South Korea secured a 1-0 win over Mexico in their last meeting which was at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in Brazil.
