Portugal will face off with Andorra in an international friendly match at the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica on November 11.

The Navigators secured a 3-0 victory over Sweden in their previous game which was a UEFA Nations League match on 14 October 2020.

The win extended Portugal’s unbeaten run to seven matches across all competitions having registered five wins and two draws.

Their last defeat came in October 2019 when they suffered a 2-1 loss to Ukraine in a UEFA European Championship qualifier.

Fernando Santos, the Portugal head coach, explained why they are set to face Andorra and he praised defender Pepe, who was omitted from the latest squad due to injury.

“We are playing this match because it was imposed on us – if it hadn’t been we would not have chosen to play anybody on this date,” Santos said.

“He’s an example for the younger ones at training, with his attitude. It’s a shame he’s not there because normally he’s a shoo-in starter,” he added with regards to the 37-year-old defender.

Meanwhile, Andorra suffered a 2-0 defeat to the Faroe Islands in their previous match which was a UEFA Nations League encounter on 13 October 2020.

The defeat extended the Tricolours’ winless run to eight matches across all competitions having recorded three draws and five defeats.

Their last win came against Moldova in October 2019 as they secured a 1-0 victory in a UEFA European Championship qualifier.

The last meeting between Portugal and Andorra was on 7 October 2017. The Navigators overcame the Tricolours 2-0 in a FIFA World Cup qualifier which was played at the Estadi Nacional in Andorra la Vella.
