Three footballers have been announced by The Confederation of African Football as contenders for African Player of the Year. The three players announced are non-other than:
Andre Ayew of Ghana (Swansea City)
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon (Borussia Dortmund)
Yaya Toure of Cote D’Ivoire (Manchester City)
The announcement of Africa’s best player will be 7 January 2016 at the gala event in Nigeria. The winner will be chosen via a voting process that includes the coaches or technical directors of the national associations associated to CAF.
Andre Ayew
Andre Ayew the son of three-time African Footballer of the year Abedi Ayew will be following in his father’s footsteps if he wins the title. Ayew has played internationally for Ghana since 2008 and has earned over 65 caps and scored 15 goals.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Pierre holds the title of highest goal scorer for his international team Gabon. He has played for the team since 2009 and in his 48 appearances he has scored 20 goals. Pierre plays for German Club Borussia Dortmund where he has twice won the DFL-Supercup.
Yaya Toure
Could this be the fifth year that Yaya wins African Player of the year? He already walked away with the title in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 and was recently named the BBC’s 2015 African Player of the Year. If he does win in 2015 he will be the first to hold the title for five years. The Manchester City ace has played internationally since 2004 representing Ivory Coast in 100 appearances and scoring 19 goals.
