Lobi Stars look to consolidate top spot

Lobi Stars will be looking to consolidate their place on top of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) when they host Enugu Rangers at Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi on Sunday, 20 May 2018, kick-off at 17h00 CAT.

Stars have enjoyed a strong campaign thus far and – prior to their midweek match away to Plateau United – held a two-point lead over Kano Pillars, and had two games in hand on the second-placed team.

The Ortom Boys come into the clash having won four of their last six league outings, though the fact that they have scored just once in each of their last five games may be of concern to manager Solomon Ogbeide.

Enugu are also unbeaten in their last six NPFL matches, though they too have struggled to find the back of the net on a consistent basis – apart from a 3-0 win over Wikki Tourist, they have drawn five matches, three of them 0-0.

The Flying Antelopes are very much part of the chasing pack and will be hoping to strike a blow to Stars’ hopes of running away with the championship.

In head-to-head stats, Stars and Rangers have met in 23 league matches since 2005. The Ortom Boys have claimed 11 wins compared to nine for the Flying Antelopes, while three games have been drawn.

The teams’ most recent meeting was in January this year, with Stars claiming a 2-1 away win at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
