Return to King Power Stadium for Riyad Mahrez

The return of Algerian star Riyad Mahrez to the King Power Stadium will be the lead narrative when Leicester City host Manchester City for a Premier League clash on 26 December 2018, kick-off at 17h00 CAT.

Mahrez was a key man for Leicester in his four and a half years at the club and famously inspired their incredible Premier League title triumph in the 2015/16 season. After agitating for a move away, the 27-year-old was finally released by the Foxes in July 2018 when he joined champions Man City for a fee of €67.8million.

Mahrez has settled in well at the Etihad Stadium and helped City mount a strong defence of their title thus far (though at the time of writing they are placed second on the log, one point behind Liverpool).

The Citizens’ recently racked up a 3-1 win over Everton (to bounce back from their 2-0 loss to Chelsea the week prior) and they will head to King Power Stadium on the back of a home match against Crystal Palace on December 22.

Leicester, meanwhile, will have a tough match away to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on the same day. Manager Claude Puel will hope for an improved performance in London after his side suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace on December 8 and 15 respectively.

In head-to-head stats, Leicester and Man City have met in 14 Premier League matches. The Citizens have claimed seven wins compared to five for the Foxes, while two games have been drawn.

The teams’ most recent meeting was a Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium in February 2018 which saw Man City claim a 5-1 home win, thanks to an opening strike from Raheem Sterling and four goals from Sergio Aguero. The Citizens are on a three-game winning streak against the Foxes in league football.
