Defending champions Stars look to make up ground

Defending Ghana Premier League champions Aduana Stars will look to make up ground when they face hosts Karela United at Aiyinase Cam Park on Wednesday, 23 May 2018, kick-off at 17h00 CAT.

Stars found themselves in the relegation zone of the 2018 GPL log, but this is because they have played just seven matches compared to the 12 already racked up by most other teams.

Aduana have fallen behind in their domestic schedule due to commitments in the CAF Champions and Confederation Cup. In fact, this midweek they host Raja Casablanca in a group stage clash of the latter competition.

Stars’ last GPL match brought a 3-2 home win over Liberty Professionals last Thursday, sparking belief that coach Yussif Abubakar’s team will be able to catch-up to the likes of AshantiGold and Medeama at the top of the GPL standings.

As for Karela, their 12 league matches have brought them 18 points and left them in a respectable fifth place on the log. However, they have lost two of their last three GPL games, including their most recent outing – a 1-0 loss at Liberty Professionals earlier in the month.

In head-to-head stats, this will be the first GPL clash between newly-promoted Karela United and Aduana Stars.
