Man United to face tough Cherries test

AFC Bournemouth will look to get the 11th round of the 2018/19 Premier League season off to a sensational start by defeating Manchester United at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday, 3 November, kick-off at 14h30 CAT.

Bournemouth comes into the game having enjoyed a great recent run of form. The South Coast side has taken 10 points from the last 12 available and is sitting in sixth place – higher up the log than their esteemed weekend rivals.

The Cherries gave a fine performance last weekend when they won 3-0 in London against Fulham, with Callum Wilson’s brace sandwiching a strike from David Brooks. The two goal-scorers and Ryan Fraser make up an exciting front three that will surely threaten a weak United defence.

The Red Devils’ have now gone six games without keeping a clean sheet, and conceded 17 from their 10 matches overall – only Burnley, Cardiff City Fulham and Huddersfield Town have a worse defensive record.

Yet United have taken seven points from their last three Premier League matches and gave a very promising showing in defeating Everton 2-1 last Sunday, with goals from Paul Pogba and the in-form Anthony Martial.

Jose Mourinho’s team will see this game as a must-win, not only to lift themselves from eighth place on the log but gain further confidence ahead of a week which will see them face Juventus in the UEFA Champions League and hated rivals Manchester City in a derby on November 11.

Bournemouth and United have met in just six previous Premier League matches. The Red Devils have claimed four wins compared to just one for the Cherries, while one game has been drawn. The teams’ most recent meeting was on the South Coast back in April and Man United won 2-0 thanks to goals from Chris Smalling and Romelu Lukaku.
