Arsenal, Spurs set for derby showdown

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur will renew their North London rivalry when they meet in a Premier League match at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, 2 December 2018, kick-off at 16h05 CAT.

Arsenal stretched their unbeaten run across all competitions to 17 matches – and returned to winning form – by defeating Bournemouth 2-1 away from home last weekend. An own goal from the Cherries’ Jefferson Lerma and a strike from Gabonese forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang secured the three points for Unai Emery’s team.

Tottenham, meanwhile, stole all the headlines in the Premier league by handing Chelsea a 3-1 defeat at Wembley. Not only was it the first loss for the Blues this season, but Spurs also leapfrogged Maurizo Sarri’s team on the log table, moving up to third place. The victory over Chelsea was secured by goals from Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Song Heung-min.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side probably lacks the depth and stamina to challenge for the title, but they are certainly worthy of a place in the top three. Yet such has been Arsenal’s form that a home win in this fixture will see them leapfrog Tottenham on the log.

With both teams in great form and putting together strong campaigns, this match is very much about staking a claim as the top dogs in North London. It should also be a feast of attacking football, with Tottenham finally able to field Kane, Alli, Son and Christian Eriksen all together in the same line-up, while Arsenal’s Aubameyang – who is level with Sergio Aguero at the top of the scoring charts – epitomises the potency of their forward play.
