The 2018 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season will finally get underway this weekend, with a full set of fixtures scheduled to be played on Sunday afternoon.
The new campaign should have kicked off in February but was postponed when relegated club Great Olympics served the Ghana Football Association (GFA) with a court injunction, claiming that Bechem United and Elmina Sharks had fielded ineligible players against them during the course of the 2017 season.
This has since been overturned in the courts and the GPL held its official launch on Monday, February 26.
The new season sees reigning champions Aduana Stars looking to keep up their dominance, though they will face stiff competition from the likes of WAFA, Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko and Ebusua Dwarfs.
The GPL has also welcomed the three promoted teams: Dreams FC, Eleven Wonders and Karela FC. Accra-based Dreams look likely to be the most successful of the trio, having won the preseason G8 tournament by defeating Hearts of Oak 2-1 in the final.
According to the GFA, the first round of matches will all played on Sunday, March 4, kick-off at 17h00 CAT:
WAFA v Asante Kotoko
Aduana Stars v Liberty Professionals
Eleven Wonders v Hearts of Oak
AshantiGold v Wa All Stars
Ebusua Dwarfs v Berekum Chelsea
Dreams FC v Elmina Sharks
Medeama v Karela FC
Inter Allies v Bechem United
