Liverpool look to continue rich form

Liverpool comes into the game having claimed a resounding 5-0 win away to Porto in last week’s UEFA Champions League clash, and they had this past weekend off due to their elimination from the FA Cup.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are looking to consolidate their place in the top four and this weekend presents them with a great chance to do just that: a win in this Saturday match will take them to second place on 57 points, with at least one of fellow top four rivals Manchester United (56) and Chelsea (53) set to drop points when they face each other on Sunday.

As for West Ham, they ended a four-game winless streak by defeating Watford 2-0 at home earlier this month, and they too had last weekend off following earlier elimination from the FA Cup.

David Moyes and his side are placed in what seems to be the relative safety of 12th place on the log, but a closer look reveals that the Hammers are in fact just four points above the relegation zone and cannot afford a second lean run of form in such quick succession.

In head-to-head stats, Liverpool and West Ham have met in 114 matches across all competitions. The Reds have claimed 60 wins compared to 23 for the Hammers, while 31 games have been drawn.

The teams’ most recent meeting was a Premier League clash at London Stadium in November 2017 which Liverpool won 4-1, thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah (two), Joel Matip and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The Reds are unbeaten in their last five matches against the Hammers and have scored 11 goals in the process.
