Liverpool and defending champions Manchester City will meet in what promises to be a thrilling 2021/22 English Premier League clash at Anfield on Sunday.

It is still very early in the season, but this match could set a title-winning foundation for either side in what is already shaping up to be one of the most competitive league seasons to date.

Liverpool are the only unbeaten team left in the league this season and go into matchday seven top of the league standings – a point above CIty and four other teams – following a 3-3 draw at newly-promoted Brentford last time out.

“They deserved their three goals and they deserved the point. I think we could have scored more; they could have scored one more, we could have scored four or five more and it would have been even more spectacular. But it’s fine, we got a point, they got a point, let’s carry on,” Reds manager Jurgen Klopp said following their match against the Bees.

Pep Guardiola became the Cityzens’ most successful manager in terms of wins as his side earned a deserved 1-0 victory at European champions Chelsea last weekend.

“I’m so proud. We’ve done it at Stamford Bridge at the last Champions League winner. We’ve been magnificent together. It makes me proud, a little bit for myself but especially for the club,” Guardiola told reporters in the aftermath.

“Today the guys were outstanding. At this stadium and against this opponent, to do what we have done makes me so proud. When we win the manager is a genius when we lose he is not. I understand everything.”

Last season, City took four points off Liverpool. They followed a 1-1 draw at Etihad Stadium with a thumping 4-1 win at Anfield. Mohamed Salah scored a penalty in both matches.
