Matchday 2, selected fixtures

Two heavyweights of the European game will meet on Wednesday 28 October when Juventus welcome Barcelona to the Allianz Stadium in Turin for a 22:00 CAT kick-off. The match is one of 16 on 27-28 October in Matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League group stage.

Juventus, in their first European match under manager Andrea Pirlo, got off to a great start in Group G when they claimed a 2-0 win away to Dynamo Kyiv. Striker Alvaro Morata struck in the 46th and 84th minutes as the Bianconeri put three away points on the board.

“Playing in the Champions with the Juve shirt is very exciting for me,” said Morata. “The last game I played in this competition with Juve, I will always remember and not for good reasons [the defeat against Barcelona in the 2015 final]. But every year you have another chance to go all the way and we will try again.”

Barcelona, meanwhile, produced probably their best performance under Ronald Koeman when they thumped Ferencvaros 5-1 at home to join Juve on three points in the group. Lionel Messi, Ansu Fati, Philippe Coutinho, Pedri and Ousmane Dembele netted for Barca, though they did have defender Gerard Pique sent off.

“If he plays like he did tonight, I will have no complaints over Leo [Messi],” Koeman said after the victory. “He worked hard, he scored from the penalty spot but I then I too used to score penalties. If he doesn’t score but gives two or three assists we cannot ask more of him. We have people up front playing well and that is the best thing for a coach. I think we have shown that we have great players up front.”

The other Group G match on Wednesday 28 October sees Hungary’s Ferencvaros welcome Ukrainian side Dynamo Kyiv to the Groupama Arena in Budapest.
