Everton out to derail Tottenham

Everton-VS-spurs

Everton will look to derail Tottenham Hotspur’s impressive Premier League campaign when the teams meet at Goodison Park on 23 December 2018, kick-off at 18h00 CAT.

Everton comes into the match having suffered a 3-1 loss away to Manchester City last weekend. Marco Silva’s side failed to capitalise on their chances against the champions and was made to pay for it, though the manager will at least be happy with the potential and endeavour his side showed at the Etihad Stadium.

If the Toffees can sharpen up their play in the final third – and bring star man into the play more – then they will pose to any team, especially on home soil and with the powerful support Goodison faithful behind them.

Spurs, however, are on a great run of form at present and will come into the clash full of confidence. They have won their last three Premier League matches on the bounce (and in the midst of that picked up a draw away to Barcelona which secured their progression in the UEFA Champions League), with their latest outing a 1-0 home victory over Burnley this past weekend, in which Christian Eriksen scored a late winner.

The Lilywhites are not being spoken of as potential title challengers, but manager Mauricio Pochettino and his charges will be more than happy with their current placing of third on the log, just six points off the pace of leaders Liverpool.

In head-to-head stats, Everton and Tottenham have met in 52 Premier League matches. The Lilywhites have claimed 25 wins compared to eight for the Toffees, while 19 games have been drawn.

The teams’ most recent meeting was a Premier League clash at Wembley in January 2018 which saw Spurs rack up a 4-0 win, thanks to goals from Son Heung-min, Harry Kane (two) and Christian Eriksen. The London side is unbeaten in their last 11 league matches against Everton.
