West Ham to continue building momentum

West Ham United will look to continue building momentum in the Premier League when they face Stoke City at the Bet365 Stadium on Saturday, 16 December 2017, kick-off at 17h00 CAT.

West Ham held Arsenal to a goalless draw at home on Wednesday night, a fine follow-up to their 1-0 win over Chelsea last weekend. A haul of four points from two matches against London heavyweights represents major progress for the Hammers under manager David Moyes, who will want to see them step their level up again for this away clash.

Stoke, meanwhile, were beaten 1-0 at Burnley in midweek – a fourth defeat from their last five Premier League matches. That sequence has seen the Potters concede 12 goals and manager Mark Hughes will be keen to see his defence improve against a West Ham which has netted just 14 times in 17 matches this season.

This clash is very much a relegation ‘six pointer’, with the Hammers placed 19th on 14 points, while their hosts are just two points ahead in 15th place. A win for either would go a long way in taking them away from the danger zone.

Stoke and West Ham have met in 58 matches across all competitions. The Potters have claimed 23 wins compared to 19 for the Hammers, while 16 matches have been drawn.

The teams’ most recent meeting was a Premier League clash in April 2017 which ended in a goalless stalemate in Stoke. The Potters are unbeaten in their last eight matches against United, though five of those results have been draws.
