Swansea to claim another major scalp?

Swansea City will be hopeful of claiming another major scalp in their battle against relegation from the Premier League when they host Arsenal at Liberty Stadium on Tuesday, 30 January 2018, kick-off at 21h45 CAT.

Swansea remain rooted to the bottom of the log after winning just five of their 24 matches thus far, but on January 22 they gave their hopes a major boost when they defeated Liverpool 1-0 in Wales thanks to a first-half goal from Alfie Mawson.

Manager Carlos Carvahal will hope the visit of another heavyweight brings out the best in his side, which is just three points from safety coming into this round of matches and has the chance to gain a jump on their main rivals (West Bromwich Albion, Southampton, Stoke City and Newcastle United, who all play on Wednesday).

Arsenal showed there is life after Alexis Sanchez when they thrashed Crystal Palace 4-1 in their last league clash, but Gunners fans will be wary of this trip given their team’s poor away record this season: Arsene Wenger’s side has won just  three of their 12 matches on the road.

In head-to-head stats, Swansea and Arsenal have met in 19 matches across all competitions. The Gunners have claimed 10 wins compared to seven for the Swansa, while just two games have been drawn.

The teams’ most recent meeting was a Premier League clash in late October 2017 which saw Arsenal claim a 2-1 home win at the Emirates, thanks to goals from Sead Kolasinac and Aaron Ramsey.
