Manchester City v Tottenham : Match Preview

Manchester City’s problems could get a whole lot worse come the weekend as they gear up to host Tottenham who are currently the on-form team in the Premier League. Man City are currently sitting 5th on the league table after an unconvincing run of poor form that has seen them pick up just half of the available points from their last 8 games. Spurs, on the other hand, have won all 6 of their recent league games and will be hopping to make it 7 from 7 come Saturday night. Spurs have been the better side in the last few meetings between the 2 teams having won 3 out of 3 with Man City not managing to pick up any points from the fixture since 2015. The top 6, however, is rather close and 5th placed City are sitting just 3 points behind 2nd placed Spurs. Tottenham are now just 7 points adrift of...

Guardiola Exposes Barca Weakness in City Comeback Win

Manchester City Came from behind to record a stunning victory over Barcelona at the Etihad. Resoundingly thumped at the Nou Camp a couple of weeks ago and never having beaten Barca in their five previous fixtures, City were expected to struggle. There were a bad omen early on as as Raheem Sterling was booked for simulation when a penalty seemed to be the better decision. Despite this, City held their nerve and were the better team in the early exchanges, playing from the back and pressing in typical Guardiola fashion. Just as they moved to assert their dominance with a goal, Barca struck. They broke on the counter through Neymar who found Messi with a pinpoint pass before the Argentine slotted home. Guardiola had said he is not going to change his formula and City kept to their guns despit...

Wanyama Shines As Spurs Dominate City

Kenya captain Victor Wanyama put up a man of the match performance as Tottenham Hotspur snapped Man City’s winning start to the season.Wanyama was imperious in midfield, shielding the back four well and stifling the forward momentum of City’s players. With the win, Spurs ended Pep Guardiola’s unbeaten run in the league, halting an impressive six match winning streak. This moved Spurs to second on the log with just one point shy of league leaders City, remaining the only unbeaten team in the league.Playing at home and with the crowd behind them, Spurs bossed the early proceedings, pressuring City into rushing their play. Their movement and energy was too much for City to live with, particularly troubling their less mobile midfield players like Fernando.  It took just nine ...

Watford Embarrass United As City March On

It was a high scoring weekend in the Premier League as Manchester United suffered their third loss in a week while City continued their storming start to the season and Stoke fell to another defeat. It was a historic win for Watford who until then had never beaten their opponents in 30 years. For United, the loss came on the heels of defeats to Feyenoord in the Europa League and the Manchester derby last weekend. Ahead of Sunday’s visit to Watford, the Red Devils were looking for a come-back victory but were shocked by a 34th minute Etienne Capoue strike. United pulled one back in the 62nd minute through Marcus Rashford who tapped in from close range. Mourinho’s men had dominated possession in the second half but were dealt a hammer blow when Juan Zuniga scored with his first touch. T...

Raheem Sterling Reborn Under Guardiola

Raheem Sterling came to prominence as a 17 year old at Liverpool. He played with a youthful exuberance and flair that was easy on the eye as he broke into the reds first team. Sterling was shortlisted for the PFA Young Player of the year award in the 2013/2014 season and was named Liverpool’s Young Player of the year. His prolific form continued and he was again named the clubs young player of the year the following year. It seemed like he had a bright future ahead of him but then came the transfer saga. Sterling turned down a new deal which at the time was rumored to be in the region of £100,000.00 a week. EPL Week 3 preview

The usual suspects Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea are all in the top four positions. But newcomers Hull City remain the biggest surprise after picking maximum points in two matches and are surprisingly placed third on the log. They surprised champions Leicester City 2-1 in the season opener and beat Swansea 2-0 last weekend. Hull face perhaps their biggest test when they host Manchester United on Saturday. Two wins in a row have given Hull City plenty of confidence going into Saturday’s fixture but in United they face an inspired side that has not dropped any points so far. Hull manager Mike Phelan has done well for himself considering that he inherited a squad that was ravaged by injuries and he has not been able to buy any big names. He will be hoping that Shaun Mal...

Arsenal pip Spurs and Man City secure the 4th position

On a day that was full of drama which saw the abandonment of Manchester United’s match against AFC Bournemouth, City only needed a draw to finish ahead of Manchester United and with it a place in the Champions League.  City, have thus finished the season with 66 points. United can also get to 66 but their inferior goal difference means that they cannot catch up with City. The Red Devils will have to beat Bournemouth on Tuesday by more than ten goals to finish ahead of City. City got off to a good start when Kelechi Iheanacho scored from close range but were denied a clear win when Andrew Ayew’s free kick was deflected to cancel out their early lead. With the prospect of finishing outside the top four a reality, City created more chances than their opponents as they looked to en...

Who will end up in fourth Man United or Man City

Manchester City and Manchester United will be fighting for the two remaining slots to decide who finishes in the top four. With Leicester already declared champions, Arsenal and Tottenham assured of a top four finish, there is only one Champions League place remaining and it could go either to United or the Citizens. United had it in their hands until they lost 2-0 to West Ham on Tuesday. Even if they beat Bournemouth on Sunday at home, the Red Devils are still unsure of a top four finish as City who play away to Swansea will snatch the last Champions League place with victory over Swansea City. City is fourth on the log with 65 points two more than fifth-placed United and they just need to win against Swansea to keep their place in Europe. Both City and United have had a bad domestic seas...

Premier League: Top Four fight continues

Going into the match, both sides were fighting for a top four finish. The Gunners look to have been the greatest beneficiaries of the draw and could even finish second on the log after Tottenham Hotspur lost 2-1 to Southampton. For Manchester City, it was a disappointing result that may as well lock them out of the top four and hence European football. The 2-2 draw means that an opportunity to play in Europe next season is no longer in Manchester City’s hands. Manchester City started well and goals by Sergio Aguero who scored his sixth consecutive Premier League in a row and Kevin de Bruyne ensured they went ahead on two occasions. The Gunners will have Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez to thank for the comeback as the pair scored a goal each to ensure that they picked a point and pu...
