Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel asserts his innocence despite being banned for 3 matches following violent conduct  during a match against rivals Manchester United at Anfield. Skrtel and United keeper David De Gea tussled after the final whistle in an incident that appeared to involve Skrtel stomping on De Gea.

An appeal was dismissed by an independent panel but Skrtel remains unrepentant, according to the 30-year old’s website:

I didn’t want to stamp on him. It was an accident and I didn’t do it on purpose. I don’t feel guilty. It was a long ball and he went towards me and I wanted to jump over him. Simple as that

The ban means Skrtel will miss the upcoming clash against Arsenal, but he won’t be alone on the bench as Steven Gerrard’s red card seems him out of the next match too.

Liverpool will be hosted by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on 4 April 2015.
