EPL: What happened in week 3

Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea maintained their perfect start to the season by picking all three points against their opponents at the weekend.

City however, remains at the top of the log after thrashing West Ham 3-1. Raheem Sterling scored first in the seventh minute before Fernandinho added a second from a Kevin de Bruyne free kick. West Ham pulled one back in the second half when Michail Antonio netted home but Sterling’s late goal ensured that City maintained an unbeaten run in three matches.

It is the kind of result that the new City manager Pep Guardiola would have loved ahead of the September 10 Manchester derby.

Manchester United prepared well for the derby by edging out hard fighting Hull City 1-0 away after Marcus Rashford scored a late goal to end the home team’s resistance.

The win also gave United a perfect start to the season as it was their third victory in a row.

Hull City was always motivated going into this fixture following a good start to the season and was expected to give United problems. And for a good part of the match they did. They defended very well and occasionally broke free but poor finishing cost them. United danger men Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic had come close on several occasions.

United deserved all three points considering their persistence and resilience throughout the match.

Chelsea slayed Burnley 3-0 as the Blues picked their third win in a row. Eden Hazard, William and Victor Moses scored a goal each for Chelsea.

Burnley was never to be underrated as they had shocked Liverpool 2-0 last weekend but the speed and determination of Chelsea looked too much for them on Saturday night.

Arsenal and Leicester City finally picked their first wins of the season. The gunners mauled Watford 3-1 while Leicester were 2-1 winners over Swansea. The Premier League takes a break this weekend to pave way for the international calendar.
