Manchester United v Arsenal

Chelsea may have won the English Premier League title but the battle for the minor places continues this weekend and Sunday’s big match sees Manchester United host Arsenal at Old Trafford.

Barring their goal difference taking a battering in the final two matches of the campaign, Manchester United are assured of a top four finish and qualification for the Champions League next season. They are two points behind Arsenal in the standings and five behind Manchester City and after three successive defeats at Chelsea, Everton and at home to West Brom, they returned to winning ways last weekend with a 2-1 victory away at Crystal Palace. In addition to West Brom’s shock win in United’s most recent home game, Southampton and Swansea are the other sides to have taken maximum points from Old Trafford this season.

The Gunners were on the wrong end of a shock result last time out, losing 1-0 at home to Swansea. That ended a run of ten league games without defeat, nine of which had been won. Arsenal have played one game fewer than the other top sides so they are still very much in the race to finish as runners up to Chelsea. They also have the FA Cup final with Aston Villa to look forward to and these final three league matches offer the opportunity for players to stake a claim for a starting place at Wembley. Arsenal have already won in Manchester twice this season, beating United in the FA Cup here and City in a league game.

Summary:

United have blown hot and cold in recent times but this is their final home game of the season and they will be keen to send the fans home happy. Arsenal looked a little tired against Swansea and their display was way below the normal standard. It should be a cracking game and we think home advantage tips the scales in United’s favour.

Pick: Man United to win @2.38
